Building Strong Money Habits Early with Rogue Rangers™ Kids Club
Helping kids learn about money is an exciting opportunity to set them up for success. At Rogue Credit Union, we believe financial education should feel engaging from the very beginning. That’s why we created Rogue Rangers™ Kids Club to help children ages 0–12 build strong money skills while staying excited along the way. With the right tools and help, kids can begin to understand money in a way that feels empowering—and even fun—at a young age.
Start with Simple, Everyday Lessons
Young kids learn best by doing, whether it’s saving birthday money, earning a small allowance, setting aside funds for a small gift or toy, or collecting change in a piggy bank. These moments help introduce the basics: save, spend, and share.
It’s also a great time to introduce the difference between wants and needs. Needs are the essentials, like food, clothing, and a place to live. Wants are extras, like toys or treats. Helping kids understand this difference early builds thoughtful skills and encourages them to prioritize how they use their money.
Try using clear jars or envelopes to visually separate money into categories. This hands-on approach helps kids see where their money is going and understand that saving is a choice. Keep conversations simple and constant, and look for teachable moments in everyday life, like a trip to the store or planning for a family outing.
Make Saving a Habit
Consistency is key when building strong habits. Encourage kids to make regular deposits, no matter how small. Even a few dollars at a time helps reinforce the idea that saving is something we do regularly, not just occasionally.
With Rogue Rangers™, kids are rewarded for building that habit. Each deposit over $1 earns a digital punch, and every five punches adds $2 to their high-yield Ownership Account. It’s a simple way to show that savings pay off.
Keep Kids Engaged and Motivated
Rogue Rangers™ also keeps kids excited about their progress with tools and rewards along the way:
- Digital punch card rewards that encourage ongoing saving
- Special community events for Rogue Rangers™ and their families
- Quarterly coloring sheets that reinforce money concepts at home
- Welcome gifts and birthday surprises to celebrate milestones
- The Rogue Ranger™ Badge Program, where kids complete challenges and earn rewards, including a $5 deposit into their Ownership Account
These perks turn financial education into something kids look forward to, helping them stay engaged.
Partnering with Families
Parents and caregivers play an important role in shaping money habits. By teaching positive behaviors, setting goals together, and celebrating progress, families can help kids build a strong foundation.
At Rogue Credit Union, we’re here to support your entire family’s journey to financial well-being every step of the way. Ready to start your child with a Rogue Rangers™ Kids Club membership? We’re here to help. Send us a chat, call 800.856.7328, or visit your local branch.
