Have you heard the exciting news!? Your credit union just returned $2.5 million back to Rogue Credit Union members through our first Loyalty Dividend! We have been working since 2008 as part of our long-term strategic goals to reward our member-owners for their loyalty and participation with the credit union. I am proud to say that we were able to do so with the payment of our first ever Rogue Rewards Loyalty Dividend.

This time of the year I reflect back on the credit union's results for the previous year. The success that our members have created for our credit union is hard to put into words, but I will try... words like amazing, incredible, and outstanding are a few words that come to mind. The credit union reached several milestones and received several accolades for our member service, staff focus, and financial results in 2015. All of this is due to our Board of Director's member focused decisions at the beginning of the financial crisis; decisions that guided the credit union for the sole benefit of our members as a member owned institution. The Board's action went against common thinking. They decided to invest in you, our members, and protect the jobs of our staff members. Well, today we are seeing that the investment in member focused decisions is now paying incredible returns to our members. We are excited about the next phase of how our Board will invest in our members and recognize your loyal participation in your credit union. More on that in a later issue...

During the holiday season, we turn our focus to celebrating close friends and family that have made an important impact in our lives. At Rogue Credit Union, I would like to reflect on 2015 by celebrating the record breaking generosity of YOU, our members.

It is the time of year where we each take stock of what we are thankful for, and excitedly look forward to all that the new year will bring. This is the time of year that I take the time to reflect on your credit union's performance over the last year. I methodically review our past results and look to the future for our credit union. I just presented our 2016 Strategic Business Plan to our Board of Directors and had an opportunity to celebrate with our Board the great results your credit union has experienced over the last couple of years. As I started to add up how well your credit union is doing I almost had to pinch myself as I counted up all the ways that you, our members, have demonstrated support for your local credit union. Please let me share on behalf of each volunteer and staff member our sincere appreciation for your continued trust and loyalty of Rogue Credit Union.

Did you know that Rogue Credit Union is a not-for-profit cooperative? You may even be wondering “what exactly is a cooperative?” A cooperative is an organization owned and operated by a group of people working together toward a common goal. It’s astonishing what like-minded people can accomplish when we pull our resources and work together! As a not-for-profit cooperative, we believe and operate according to the 7 cooperative principles. Cooperative principle number 7 is about concern for the community and states, “While focusing on member needs, cooperatives work for the sustainable development of communities through policies and programs accepted by the members.” As a not-for-profit cooperative, we are able to focus on what benefits our members and our community, not just the bottom line. We are honored to be able to give back to our members and provide our communities the support they need in order to do amazing things!

At Rogue Credit Union, we believe in the importance of doing the right thing for the member. At times you may have questioned why we have changed processes or required documentation for different products and services. Our teams at Rogue work hard to simplify processes that are required while still staying in regulatory compliance. Sometimes, when new regulations are developed they have unintended consequences that impact the credit union and ultimately you, our member.

One of Rogue Credit Union’s little known community outreach efforts is our high school student branch program. This program takes us back to our roots, as Rogue began as a Teacher’s Credit Union in 1956. In 1993, Rogue opened the first student branch in the State of Oregon at South Medford High School. The program started innocently as a senior project for Jason Lukaszewicz. Jason was a special talent in 1993 and today he serves as the Partner in Charge of the Medford office Moss Adams LLP, a well-respected national accounting firm.

I am so proud to be the CEO of a financial organization that is truly able to make our members our top priority! Credit Unions are cooperatives and are devoted to the idea of people helping people. As a credit union, Rogue is a not-for-profit cooperative organization, meaning that we get to give back to our members in the forms of better rates, lower fees and sometimes even no fees for certain products and services, rather than focusing on making profits for shareholders.
