Gene's Note: (Re)introduce Yourself to Southern Oregon

Summer is just around the corner and if you’re like me, you’re starting to think about your warm weather activities and getting out to explore all Southern Oregon has to offer. Whether you prefer an action packed adventure, a slow relaxing afternoon or something in between, you’re bound to find something nearby for your summertime destination.

If you’ve lived in the area for a while, you’re probably familiar popular activities such as visiting Crater Lake, hiking Upper & Lower Table Rock or taking in the beauty of the coast and the Pacific Ocean.   Perhaps a little less known, just north of our Port Orford branch lies a recreational area known as Cape Blanco which is the farthest point west in the U.S. among the contiguous states.  You can even take in a 360 degree view by venturing to the top of the Cape Blanco lighthouse. While you’re on the coast you may also catch a glimpse of the last of the whale migration as they head back up north to cooler waters.  I also enjoy a nice getaway weekend to the coast to escape the summer heat of the inland valleys and take in the sounds of the waves crashing onto the shoreline. For all of the latest on coastal activities and events visit the Travel Curry Coast website.

When you’re looking for a classic Southern Oregon adventure, rafting the Rogue River or Klamath River is sure to give you a thrill.  A jet boat ride down the Rogue to Hellgate Canyon followed by a nice meal afterward combines fun, adventure and food together. Of course if you’re into water sports, Southern Oregon has many great lakes for the avid water-skier, wake boarder, or inner-tubing enthusiast. The Travel Medford website is a treasure trove of activities and adventures you can enjoy right here in the Rogue Valley.

After the end of a long day you may want to unwind at a Shakespeare play in Ashland or take in a show at the Britt Gardens in Jacksonville.  One of my favorite ways to unwind is at a movie in the park as the stars twinkle overhead and the community comes together.  I may be a little biased here since Rogue sponsors movies in the park in Medford and Roseburg, but it truly is a great way to relax, unwind and catch up on the latest releases my grandkids are raving about.

As I gear up for summer time activities, I can’t help but be grateful that I get to live in this region and truly call it my home. While there is a lot to take in right here in Southern Oregon, many will also travel outside the area on some great vacations. If you are traveling out of state, it’s always a good idea to give us a call and let us know where you’re headed so that we can make sure to put travel notes on your account and your debit and credit cards will work wherever you may be headed.  One of the great new benefits of our Visa Platinum Credit Card is the 1% cash back you earn on all your purchases is deposited to your high-yield Ownership Account. Whether you’re new to the area and just getting acquainted with the region or a long-time Southern Oregonian re-introducing yourself to our area, there is always something new to discover.  I hope you have a wonderful and memorable summer adventure.  Thank you for being a loyal member-owner at Rogue
