Community Involvement and Our Rogue ‘Community’ Rally
By Jeanne Pickens, Chief Operations Officer
It’s crazy to believe I’ve worked at Rogue Credit Union for over 20 years. While the credit union has grown a lot during my time here, one thing that hasn’t changed is our unwavering commitment to our local communities. Community involvement is not just a part of our guiding values. It’s a part of who we are.
As a not-for-profit cooperative, Rogue Credit Union is owned by you, our members, and every decision we make is designed to do the right thing for you. We believe that doing the right thing extends beyond our financial services. Supporting the community is a way we can create stronger communities for us all. Whether sponsoring local events for everyone to enjoy, providing scholarships for students in our communities, or volunteering at organizations across the regions we serve, giving back is the core of our Rogue team members.
Volunteering is one of our favorite ways to get involved in our communities, and we highly encourage all our team members to donate some of their time each year. While our team members have already volunteered over 4,000 hours in 2022, we decided to take our volunteer efforts to new heights this fall with our Rogue ‘Community’ Rally. Over a five-week period in September and October, our 600+ team members will have donated over 1,200 hours to local organizations in the regions we serve. Volunteer activities include park and beach clean-ups, groundskeeping, painting and repairs, and more for over 20 non-profit organizations. Those organizations include Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Eagle Point Senior Community Center, ROC (Reaching Our Community) Food Pantry, Port Orford Park Cleanup, the Drexel H. Foundation, various school districts, and many more!
While giving back to our communities is the focus of the Rogue ‘Community’ Rally, it has also created unique team-building opportunities across the credit union after most in-person volunteering was put on hold during the pandemic. One of the top reasons new team members come to work at Rogue is our impact on our communities. Seeing that spark re-ignited in so many team members during the Rogue ‘Community’ Rally has been very special.
“People Helping People” is a core philosophy of the credit union movement, and I’m proud that we continue to embody it at Rogue. We are committed to giving back to our communities and creating a stronger community for us all.
